AI research tools and the advocate's duty to the court

By Selorm Dzifa Agbeko

Courts in several jurisdictions have now sanctioned lawyers for citing cases that did not exist. The tool was blamed, but the duty that was breached belonged to the advocate.

The safe habit is simple: never cite an authority you have not opened. Research Desk makes that easy because every footnote opens the passage it relies on.

Treat an AI answer as a research note prepared by a fast junior. It points you to the right places. It does not replace reading them.
